Antonín Petrof Concert Series 2019

It took almost two decades for the famous Viennese pianist and piano restorer Gert Hecher to understand, that his two hands will not be enough to handle the ever-increasing number of orders and commissions. Eventually, he found friendly support of a Czech-Macedonian pianist Ema Jedlička-Gogova and thus their partnership led to the creation of a very distinct duo that mainly focuses on the nineteenth-century salon music.

The project Liszt-Faust Symphony, modified for two pianists, tenor and male choir, offers a unique and extraordinary experience, taking place in a captivating space of the PETROF Gallery – undoubtedly more than appropriate place for the Czech premier of this performance.

The ticket price includes a welcome drink and a small snack.

Ema Jedlička-Gogova:
Passionate pianist, pedagogue, artistic director of the association ICLife (www.iclbrno.com), event organizer, publisher. Her musical career began at the age of 9 and quickly developed into a life-long passion, which further pushed her to immerse herself in the music and the art of playing the piano. Her distinctive and fascinating energy during her performances is universally regarded as uniquely captivating. During her studies, she worked with prominent pedagogues and performed solo recitals, concerts with orchestras and recordings for TV and radio. She performed in many countries around the world, mainly throughout Europe and in Canada, not only as a soloist, but also as a chamber musician and with orchestras.

Gert Hecher:
Hecher studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Just like Ema, he developed a strong interest in piano music of the 18th and 19th century. His piano studies culminated in master classes taught by Jürgen Uhde and Edith Picht-Axenfeld. As a pianist he exclusively focuses on instruments of the 18th and 19th century. As a soloist, Hecher performed, for example, in Germany, England, Italy, Hungary and Japan, where his concerts were recorded on albums. Gert Hecher, who is also a piano master, is highly sought-after restaurateur of historical pianos and his clients include some of the most well-known institutions and museums.

Male vocal choir „Láska opravdivá“:
The male vocal choir Láska opravdivá was founded in 2009 by Jan Černocký and Jan Špaček with the aim to revive the once rich and today disappearing tradition of the interpretation of compositions for male tenor. The choir exists in association with the Department of Musicology of the Masaryk University Faculty of Arts in Brno and its members mostly consist of students or graduates of universities in Brno. The choir currently consists of approx. 30 permanent members. Its repertoire focuses on Orthodox spiritual creation, among others on songs originating in Carpathian Ruthenia, and also on Czech choir works of the 19th and 20th century, especially on the work of Leoš Janáček. Láska opravdivá, translated as “True love”, is a name of one of Janáček’s male choirs for folk lyrics and as a name of a vocal choir is meant to symbolize the harmony between spiritual music and folk songs.
