Beaujolais Nouveau 2018
We would like to invite you to our musical café for a French young wine of the Gamay variety.
The tradition originated at the beginning of the 1950s (the wine being officially authorised in France in 1951) from the simple need of a well-timed ‘ditching’ of young wine. The popularity of the young Beaujolais increased in the 80s and 90s, when it became a significant symbol of the whole Beaujolais region. By law, it is permitted to open or consume this wine no sooner than from the third November Thursday’s midnight onward. Formerly, it was firmly set on 15 November, but as this date frequently fell on a weekend (which was considered impractical from the perspective of sales), the ‘shiftable’ Thursday principle was adopted.
Beaujolais and particularly the variety from which it is being made is literally predetermined for young wine production. It gives fruity, fresh medium-bodied wines with a smooth tannin profile that drink easily. It is a pleasurable experience to drink them already in their young age.
Domaine Château Préty, the CURIAL Family
Philippe has been maintaining his winery in the village of Saint-Véran since 1992. Before that, he undertook several internships both in France and abroad; in 1988, he interned at the renowned winery Ch. Beauséjour Bécot in Bourdeaux, where he met Michel Rolland and gained much experience, just as when he and Gérard Bécot were unifying a new vintage. After finishing his studies, he decided to leave for California, where he worked for various wineries in Napa Valley and Sonoma Walley. Finally, upon his return to France, he took over his family domain, where he takes care of the wines in the spirit of sustainable agriculture.
After several years of their vineyards being tormented by hailstorms and frosts, fortune finally smiled upon the Beaujolais winemakers and they are reporting ‘normal’ yields. The grapes reached an optimal ripeness and were of good health. The young Beaujolais 2018 is delicious!!!
