Pavel Haas Quartet

This ensemble, top prizewinners in the world’s largest competitions, the Premio Paolo Borciani and the Prague Spring, has quickly taken its place among the élite of the world’s string quartets. The quartet plays in the world’s most famous concert halls (being for instance the resident quartet at Wigmore Hall in London) and for its recording work has repeatedly won the Gramophone Award’s “Recording of the Year” prize and the BBC Music Magazine Award. www.pavelhaasquartet.com

Ivo Kahánek

The outright winner of the international Prague Spring competition has quickly gained recognition as one of the most impressive artists of his generation. He performs with leading world orchestras (BBC Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony) and conductors (Jiří Bělohlávek, Pinchas Steinberg, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jakub Hrůša) and is a guest at prestigious festivals (BBC Proms, Prague Spring etc.). In 2014 he appeared as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. He has made several recordings for Supraphon and Deutsche Grammophon. www.ivokahanek.cz

Jan Martiník

A soloist at the Berlin State Opera and winner of the Cardiff Singer of the Year, he is one of the world’s greatest bass players. He works with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta and Fabio Luisi, and with leading world ensembles (e.g. BBC Symphony, King’s Consort, Czech Philharmonic). He has recorded Dvořák’s Biblical songs for the prestigious Decca label. He also regularly gives song recitals. www.janmartinik.com

Czech Children’s Choir Jitro

Since 1977 it has been led by the artistic director and choiirmaster Jiří Skopal, who in 1979 came first with his choir at the international children’s choir competition in Olomouc (Golden Palm). Since the 1980s Jitro has regularly toured many European countries and participated in international competitions, gaining a host of significant awards. Its greatest achievements include winning at Llangollen (Wales, 1988), Nantes (France, 1989), Lecce (Italy, 1990), Neerpelt (Belgium, 1996), Olomouc (2003), Pardubice (2009), Lecce(Italy 2010), and winning three gold medals at Xiamen (China, 2006). Since 1990 the choir has made twelve tours of the USA , five of Japan, and has also performed in Hong Kong. Jitro’s chief accompanist is the pianist Michal Chrobák. www.jitro.cz

 

Hana Maciuchová

This most popular Czech actress has achieved remarkable success in nearly all acting genres. As a member of the Vinohrady Theatre she has played dozens of unforgettable roles (e.g. Crime and Punishment, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Master and Margarita). She is also famous for her work in cinema (Hodina Pravdy, Hra o královnu, Samotáři, etc.) and television ( the serials Nemocnice na kraji města, Španělé v Praze, Záskok za Sissi). For her radio readings she has twice been awarded the prize for the best performance on Czech Radio.

Václav Hudeček

Václav Hudeček began his upward climb among the Czech and international performing élite in the sixties. At the young age of fifteen he played at a concert in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The next day he was heard by the legendary David Oistrakh, who predicted a great future for him and offered help with his education. Since his London début he has appeared around the world on the most prestigious concert platforms ( (Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Suntory Hall and others) with the world’s greatest orchestras (Berlin Philharmonic, Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, NHK Philharmonic Orchestra and others). He remains faithful to the legacy of David Oistrakh and the other giants of the Russian violin school. He regularly assists the next generations of emerging Czech talent with his annual summer violin courses in Luhačovice as well as introducing the best players as guests at his concerts, as witness the final concert of the Antonín Petrof concert series. www.vaclav-hudecek.cz
